UGANDA
2010 Update:
The following letter was received from the Uganda's People's Defense Force for Orphans and Widows in Kampala:
Thank you for the container that arrived in Uganda in July of 2009, bringing humanitarian food stuff. As you can see the little girl on the right carrying her share of food from the center.
Uganda has been hit by droughts and floods in different parts of the country. People inthe north and north east of the country have suffered greatly from lack of food. This consignment has come just in time...especially fo the orphans and widows. These are some of the hundreds of children we distributed food (packageddry rice & vegetables) to. We had some "child headed homes". These are children who were about 13 years old taking care of their siblings. We watched them boil the food stuff. There parents were killed by the notorious rebel group called the "Lord's Resistance Army". They caused mayhem in the northern parts of Uganda as is seen by the woman whose lips were cut off with a razor blade by the rebels. There were thousands of people waiting patiently in the hot sun for their bags of food to be given to them.
The food situation came about because of the climate change. They plante
d their seeds when they thought the rains would come but they did't. But when the rains did come, there were floods everywhere, making all the food rotten in the fields. I was able to share Christ with them and many gave their hearts to the Lord. The people were desperate for food. Many communities were cut off from the rest of the country because of the floods.
Once again thank you so much on behalf of the people in northern and eastern Uganda.
