TANZANIA

APRIL 2008 UPDATE: In February and March FTN purchased and delivered 121,473 pounds of yellow corn throughout the villages of Machakos, Jorodom, Dumbeta, Balangda and Nangwa. Due to drought, food prices have risen 300% for these people who can't afford to buy anything. Previous food distributions in the villages have caused the people to be very open to the gospel and now they are very hungry for the Word of God. FTN has shipped an additional 86,122 pounds of food.

Silent Hunger

"Famine is bad in six different areas in Tanzania. The new president stated that 5 to 7 million people need food to survive.  With the help of the pastors, food supplies provided by FTN were distributed to the local people and throughout villages."

Feeding The Nations received reports in January of the dire need of the people in Tanzania. In some areas, they have not had rain in five years.  The new president stated that five to seven million people need food to survive.  Due to the lack of rain, the people have not been able to sow seed for crops.  Cows and animals are dying.  Many were near giving up. Where there isn't international news to broadcast their plight, the pastors are describing this as a "silent hunger."  Desperate people have been coming to the pastors to get help, but they had no food to give them until the FTN shipment arrived. With the help of the pastors, distribution began the Hanang and Mayara areas, near the city of Katesh. Food was also delivered in the villages of Dongobesh and Mbulu with the help of the local people.
