Drought and poor soil conditions make it difficult to produce sufficient amounts of food in Niger and Burkina Faso, causing its people to be malnourished, which in turn leads to sickness and disease. FTN teamed with other relief organizations to offer food, vitamins and medicine - an important combination in helping alleviate the suffering. The result has been an incredible increase in overall health.

FTN received a letter of thanks from one of the hospitals. The letter said: "The nutrition condition is so desperate for most of the people, mainly in the outskirts of our big cities; not many can afford one meal per day and rice is a special meal. In the villages, rice is cooked only on special days. You cannot imagine the happiness on the faces of those really needy persons whenever they received the help….

"You have made a great impact in the lives of children and adult persons that maybe you will never see face to face. You've brought a spark of hope in their lives. But one thing is certain: all this is written down and one day in heaven you will be rewarded. Your gifts made more than one happy person and we still expect much from you.

"Thousands of persons lifted their eyes to the mountains asking themselves 'where will help come from?' And help came from you, from the Lord who made heaven and earth! For with God, nothing is impossible…."

Niger/Burkina Faso Update
Food installments save children from starvation

FTN supplied Niger and Burkina Faso with four containers of food, which were given to schools, orphanages and hospitals where the children and those suffering most could be fed. The authorities of Niger and Burkina Faso welcomed the donations and gave the team quick access to the people. The president's wife - a Christian - came herself to help oversee some of the areas and mobilized her staff to assist in the distribution.

The group took their time handing out the food, knowing that a few installments of food instead of one large drop would offer more benefits over time. Plus it gave the team the opportunity to see the progress of those they were reaching. The operation was a success and saved many children from the brink of starvation.
