Honduras

January 2012 Update:

From January 11th through January 17th, FTN will ship a total of 544,000 rice/vegetable meals to Mission Lazarus in Choluteca, Honduras. These meals will be used in 4 schools and 3 feeding centers, around 1,000 children.

December 2011 Update:

FTN wanted to feed 400 to 500 people each day during this Christmas season in Honduras. With the help of our friend Pastor Peter Jurka, he purchased several very large cooking kettles and they were ready to cook. Funds were sent to buy rice and beans in-country and the people in need are now receiving hot meals.

November 2011 Update:

On November 2nd Feeding The Nations partnered with Orphanage Emmanuel to load 272,160 meals for the Guaimaca region. This food will bring relief to hundreds of children and will be distributed through orphanages, schools, hospitals, clinics, feeding stations and outreaches.

July 2011 Update:

FTN partnered with For His Kingdom Ministries in helping to reach the Tolupan tribe. The Tolupan are very difficult to reach, so missionaries and aid groups generally overlook them.

The Tolupan tribe retreated to the forest interior of the country when the Spanish conquistadors began killing them and they have been there ever since. The rugged, mountainous terrain makes life in this area very difficult.

The 40ft container was shipped to Tegucigalpa with 271,000 rice/vegetable meals to be distributed as follows: 65% will go to 150 Tolupan children and roughly 200 Tolupan adults.  35% will help feed 200 children in Nueva Suyapa and 100 children in Mateo.

The horse will carry about 2,000 meals each trip, walking several hours up the mountainous terrain to reach the Tolupan people.

First and foremost along with the food will come preaching, teaching, house-to-house visitation and prayer.

June 2011 Update:

On June 9, 2011 Feeding The Nations teamed up with Hunger Plus to bless the Association Casa De Esperanza in Tegucigalpa with 285,000 meals. Honduras is a poverty stricken nation with vast numbers of homeless and abandoned children who commonly eat from dumps. The Association Casa de Esperanza distributes food to children at the dumps, orphanages and shelters while sharing with them the love of Jesus.

April 2011 Update:

On April 28th one 40ft container filled with 271,000 Manna Pack Rice meals valued at $65,000 was donated to FTN by Feed My Starving Children. This food was sent to bless the Tolupan tribe in the rugged mountain areas of San Juan, Honduras, as we partner for the first time with "For His Kingdom Ministries". The people of the Tolupan tribe are very difficult people to reach because there are no roads. Additionally, there is virtually no medical care nearby which forces them to walk 5 to 6 hours while crossing 4 rivers just to receive help. They do not give their babies names until they reach 10-12 months because so many die before that time. Their children are very malnourished. They eat whatever they can find. Getting food to them will be a challange.

February 2011 Update:

Feeding The Nations joined hands with Global Samaritan Resources to send 142,560 meals to Mission Lazarus in Chouluteca on February 9th.We would like to thank Stop Hunger Now for providing this food and the Canterbury United Methodist Church in Birmingham, AL for volunteering to put all these meals together.

September 2010 Update:

In continuing support of Casa de Esperanza and the hundreds of children fed each day, Feeding The Nations partnered with Hunger Plus to send another 270,864 meals on September 9th.

June 2010 Update:

On June 7th, FTN partnered with World In Need to ship 924,000 servings of nutritious vegetable soup to Orphanage Emmanuel in Guaimaca. The soup is a special blend of dried lentils, beans, carrots, corn, garlic, green peas, yellow peppers, onions, potatoes, soy protein, pasta, parsley and seasonings which supplies the much needed proteins, vitamins and minerals missing from the children's diets.

June 2, 2010 Update:

The following letter was received by Mark Tindale of Casa de Esperanza.

Talk about a just in time delivery, this shipment has been an immediate blessing to many. We work with feeding projects in four communities in the Tegucigalpa area and because of the ongoing economic issues in the USA, all of them are just about out of money. We have been able to replenish each of the centers with enough food to feed the kids for the coming three months. We only work with feeding centers that are Jesus focused and include daily lessons, Bible verses, and prayer time. I love to go to the centers because I get to help lead the daily devotional time with the kids.

This load also included a two new reciepients - both are Christian Medical Clinic projects that have nutrition projects for single moms. To participate, the moms agree to also study the Word in conjunction with their learning about proper nutrition for their kids. One of the clinics is also setting up a satellite center to help with local churches that are setting up emergency feeding stations during our time of massive rains - happening right now. This tropical storm from the Pacific has dumped more than 15 inches of rain at my house since Wednesday and we live about 60 miles inland and at an elevation of almost 5,000 feet above sea level.

We were also able to share some of this load with 3 private orphanages that are suffering through some tough ecomomic times.

This food is such an amazing blessing to our ministry and the kids that are fed with it. Every time we have been offered a load, we have not had the money in the bank for the shipment but, choose to take it anyway - simply because our God is faithful 100%. Every time a load has been offered, we have shared the offer with a few, prayed over it, and within 24 hours, the money has come. On one load, a young man was with me and he was not a believer. I told him to watch what happened when with just a little faith, how our God would feed his kids. We sent one Facebook message and within 20 hours, the $5000 needed to ship the load was there. This young man is not a Christian and wants to become a missionary.

I am always amazed at how our God connects people. His plan is so far beyond anything that any of us can imagine. One day, maybe in late 2010, I would like to meet you. Of course, you are always welcome to come here to spend time with us.

In the mean time, please tell everyone that works in the packing side of your ministry that kids are being fed, lives are changed, and the light of Jesus is being shown to a dark world.

I am blessed because of you,

Marc L Tindall

September 2009 Update:

Recent update from Mark Tindall, President of Casa de Esperanza.

The rice meals are being utilized to feed children and spread the Good News of the gospel. There are three feeding centers in the Tegucigalpa area where an average of 700 total children are fed - 5 days a week. In almost all cases, this is the only meal that these children receive. Each feeding center is working not just to feed children but to operate as a base for showing the good news of the gospel to the families that participate by sending their children to the centers. Every day the children pray together, learn stories about the hope and promise of Jesus and scripture.

Thank you once again for using the resources of our amazing God to feed children. We are always amazed at the partners in service that our God introduces us to.

2007 UPDATES:

A Summer To Remember:
Provident Ministries
(Feeding The Nations) Youth Spend A Week In Honduras

While the vast majority of teenagers spend their summers working on their tans and maybe earning some extra cash, 10 teens decided to do something different. They spent July 9-14 in Honduras helping and playing with orphans, performing dramas, visiting a gang prison, feeding the needy in three villages and reaching out to the city dump where many call a landfill home. Long after the summer tans fade, these teens will forever remember how they touched the lives of many and were touched in return.

"It was a really good time," said Rachelle Page-Wood who led the mission along with her husband Josh and three other adults."The kids were surprised by what they saw. We tried to prepare the kids beforehand, but seeing it is different. It was an opportunity for them to see truly desperate people and accept that there are people less fortunate."

One of those opportunities came when they visited the local dump. They wanted to perform a feeding mission there, but security concerns kept them on the bus. "We could't let the kids off the bus because people would swarm them. Some people ran up to the bus and tried to get on," Rachelle recalled. Thankfully they were able to find another way to feed the people. "We had a contact that was able to arrange for us to go to someone's house, so families came from the dump to get food."

The group stayed at Hope Center Orphanage in the Valley of Angels. The centereconomic cares for 25 children and houses mission teams. The youth played with the children, gave them food and loved on them while they were there.

The mission team had planned on reaching people for Christ through distributing 60,000 pounds of assorted foods and vitamins valued at $250,000. The team did not anticipate receiving as they did. "The people ministered to us by how open and friendly they were. Even though they were poor and we were there to give them food, they gave us their craftsmanship, pottery and carvings," Rachelle said.

Instead of participating in the typical summer rites-of-passages for a week, these 10 youth made a bigger investment-one that will offer greater returns in their lives and the lives of those they touched.

July 17, 2007-

Feeding The Nations,

Thank you so much for the wonderful containers of food and supplies that you sent for the people of Honduras.  You will never know the blessing you have been to us and our people. His love is extended through each gift to everyone who is so blessed to receive.  The team did a great job of distribution and we will continue. Thank you for everything.

Pastor Peter and Tyanne Jurka

June 21, 2007- Peter Jurka of Zion Ministries writes that the containers have been released from customs. All went well with unloading the containers. In fact 30 men who had just lost everything in the recent mudslides due to the heavy rains came to help unload. Before the men left they filled their arms with food for their families. What a wonderful beginning!

June 3, 2007-Both containers have arrived in Honduras and are awaiting clearance through customs.

May 24, 2007- 2 x 40 ft containers or 60,091 pounds of nutritious food, vitamins, medicine, toothpaste and blankets valued at $245,387 were shipped to Honduras for the upcoming outreach. July 9-14 a Feeding The Nations team comprising mostly of the Christ Chapel youth of South Bend will be distributing this food while sharing Christ with the orphanages, prisons and nearby villages.

2006 YEAR IN REVIEW

FTN blessed Honduras with $257,158 worth or 168,067 pounds of food, clothes, medical supplies, vitamins, Spanish Christian literature, water, toys and supplies to assist the hurricane victims and the needy.

2005 YEAR IN REVIEW
FTN partnered with Zion Ministries and the First Lady of Honduras to provide relief supplies to Choluteca region ravaged by Hurricane Adrian.  Supplies valued at over $100,000 were shipped for this outreach.

JUNE 2005
Tegucigalpa /Choluteca Regions
In June, Feeding The Nations partnered with Zion Ministries to bring food and relief to two regions of Honduras. These were the Choluteca Region and the Valley of Angels near Tegucigalpa. The Choluteca Region had recently been ravaged by a hurricane that flooded the banks of its river, washing away homes and killing many people. Feeding The Nations also visited Hope Centre in the Valley of Angels, an orphanage, where earlier in the year Feeding The Nations delivered critical supplies worth more than $40,000.

Choluteca
Feeding The Nations joined the First Lady of Honduras, Aguas Santas Ocana Maduro. At her invitation, Feeding The Nations brought food, supplies, and the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the people. The First Lady cares deeply about her people, and she is well known for her proactive efforts in trying to improve the lives of those who are believed to be the poorest people in Honduras. As a result of Steve Sumrall's visits to their country, since Hurricane Mitch in 1998, the President and First Lady have come to know Pastor Steve personally. This strong relationship was evident in the help that we received, as the First Family provided transportation, fuel, security escorts, and supply trucks, and even toys for the children on this mission.

The first day of the outreach, a Honduran security escort picked up the Feeding The Nations team and drove them to an air force base. Upon arrival, military officials greeted the team. Pastor Steve and the First Lady traveled in the presidential helicopter as the rest of the team followed in another. When the team arrived, we could see where the Choluteca River had recently flooded and devastated nearby villages. Large military trucks had literally slid through four inches of mud into a long line on a soccer field.

At this distribution site, the waiting children ran into the arms of Mrs. Maduro. The mothers and the elderly began to share their stories of devastation and loss. She listened intently, and she was visibly moved for her people as the Feeding The Nations team shared the Word of God. When the invitation to accept Jesus was given, hands went up all over throughout the crowd. The people were earnestly reaching out for hope and deliverance. Feeding The Nations team members distributed 40-pound family packs consisting of pinto beans, dehydrated potatoes, dehydrated fruit, other assorted foods, and a Spanish Bible.

When all of the families present had received their food and Bibles, there were several military trucks still packed with food. The team then realized there were many families who were unable to cross the flooded river to reach the food distribution site. The First Lady immediately moved into action, coordinating boats to carry the food, boat by boat, to the villages that were trapped by the deadly waters.

Valley of Angels
The next day the Feeding The Nations team traveled to Hope CenterthoughtOrphanageendeavor, an orphanage founded by Peter and Tyanne Jurka of Zion Ministries. As Pastor Peter took the team on a facility tour, he thanked Feeding The Nations for the critical baby supplies that had been shipped to the orphanage earlier in the year. The supplies included shampoo, lotions, plastic gloves, diapers, and baby wipes all the many things that are essential for the health and well being of little ones. These things would normally have been a significant financial burden to the orphanage if they had to purchase the supplies in Honduras.

Hope Center serves as a refuge for the sick, the needy, and the fatherless children of Honduras. During their visit, the Feeding The Nations team experienced the joy of meeting many of the children who had been rescued from tragedy and given a home at Hope Center. We met a girl named Genesis who had been rescued from physical abuse and malnourishment. The team also met a boy named Manuel who had been found naked and abandoned in a cardboard box on the side of a road. There was a young girl there named Kimberly who had been found with her mother under a bridge, they were both covered in glue from her mother's addiction. All of these children have been touched by our Lord through Zion Ministries, and the donations provided through Feeding The Nations.

Feeding The Nations humbly and sincerely thanks God for the privilege of partnering together with you to bring hope and help to hurting people. Thank you for enabling Feeding The Nations to detravelledtravelledmonstrate the Love of God to so many.
