Feeding The Nations Partners with U. S. Air Force to Reach Afghanistan
Feeding The Nations sends 557,000 meals via military. aircraft
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Feeding The Nations (FTN) sent 85,000 pounds of food to Afghanistan thanks to the help of the U.S. Air Force. The food arrived on September 8 and is ready to distribute. FTN first sent 60,000 meals in April and now they have provided an additional 557,000 meals to the nation. The organization has used the Denton Program to move cargo via military aircraft. Special operations teams then deliver the meals, to orphanages, hospitals, schools and several internally displaced people (IDP) camps.
“We are grateful for this opportunity to reach the Afghan people, as this type of mission can face many challenges,” said Steve Sumrall, president of FTN. “Thanks to this program, this life saving food will strengthen our relationships ‘winning hearts and minds’ as we help build trust between the Afghan people and our military.”
FTN partnered with the Lamia Afghan Foundation to provide food for needy children and families in remote villages of Afghanistan. Retired Lieutenant (3 star) General John Bradley and his wife Jan co-founded the organization. While stationed in Afghanistan, Lt. Gen. Bradley saw the need first hand. Since retiring after 41 years, he and his wife have devoted much to Afghanistan, returning several times each year to build schools and provide school supplies. Now they want to help feeding the needy through FTN.
