Feeding The Nations Sends Relief to Quake-Stricken China

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - As China continues recovery efforts due to a devastating earthquake, the South Bend-based non-profit, Feeding The Nations (FTN), through its Finnish office sent $31,220 to provide food, water, blankets, tents and medical supplies for those affected. FTN is working with World Children's Fund to get the much-needed supplies to those who are hurting.

"Along with our partners, we are committed to providing immediate relief for those affected by such a horrible tragedy. We are taking action to get supplies in place to help ease at least a bit of the suffering. We are grateful for organizations like World Children's Fund and for individual donors who have heard the cries of those in need and have stepped up to show love and support during this time of crisis," said Steve Sumrall, president of FTN.

The earthquake struck May 12, registered 7.9 on the Richter scale - equal to 400 nuclear bombs - and brought absolute devastation, destroying over 3.5 million homes and leaving tens of thousands stranded. Estimates report that over 87 million have been affected, more than 67,000 are dead, over 362,000 are injured and close to 25,000 are missing, with numbers continuing to rise. As the clean up continues, contaminated water and other unsanitary conditions leave survivors at risk of contracting typhoid, diarrhea and hepatitis.

FTN and World Children's Fund have joined forces to immediately reach survivors with life-saving aid. For those who would like to contribute to the cause, visit www.FeedingTheNations.org for more information.
