Battambang/Tonle Sap Region
A three-year-old girl is sitting in the dirt, with sadness on her face and deep hurt in her eyes. She hits the ground with dried strips of wood. Both of her parents have died, and she is alone and hungry.A new mother is sitting beside her husband, afraid for what the future holds for her child. She is so poor that her home has only a dirt floor and a bench for comfort. There is no place for the baby to rest. She takes her shirt off and uses it to hang a cradle and protect her baby. She and her husband wait for food and hope.

An elderly woman reaches for a bag of food delivered by Feeding The Nations. She has no way of knowing if this will be the last meal she will eat. She only knows that today she must eat and drink to be strong enough to walk four miles to church tomorrow.

Cambodia is a tropical nation with daily temperatures between 80 and 100 degrees. The Tonle Sap region, where the city of Battambang lies, is the poorest part of the nation. The persistent extreme heat and lack of water make it nearly impossible to grow food and sustain a healthy supply of water for the families. Feeding The Nations recently partnered with Saphannara Pich, and his wife Sopheap, to provide food to families in this region. In this nation ravaged by drought and disease, churches are very poor, and many have no buildings in which to hold a service. Over half of the residents in this area have already accepted Christ, but there is still a great work to be done.

On the first day of distribution, the Pichs drove to a Christian gathering place outside of Battambang. These believers are fortunate enough to be sheltered by a church building, though not everyone can fit inside the structure. The pastor ministered the Gospel, and Feeding The Nations provided food such as rice and sugar to over 500 families. This church reaches out with compassion to hungry people in their own village. They will share the food provided with those who were unable to attend the service. The second day of distribution, Saphannara and Sopheap proceeded to a remote village with the pastor from the church they had visited the day before. The pastor also ministers in this village each week. Less than 10% of these believers have Bibles, so they hang on to every Word and promise they receive from the pastor.

Feeding The Nations also delivered food to these faithful families, who praised God for answered prayer. In a village more than two hours east of Battambang, the Pichs ministered again, this time to the elderly. Once again food was provided, and the love of Christ was demonstrated as God's Word was ministered. There were so many who needed food, hope, and a loving touch of compassion. The people received the food with gladness, and they praised God because they were greatly encouraged.
