Cholera Flourishes in Zimbabwe, Prompts Local Response

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Stricken by a cholera outbreak, Zimbabwe struggles to find medical support and nourishment for its people. In response, Feeding The Nations (FTN) prepares to send $230,000 worth of aid. Three 40-ft. containers with 65 tons of food and vitamins are being shipped to help fight this horrific crisis. The relief will bring 650,000 meals to those in need in Zimbabwe.

"Living in the first-world nation that we do, it is difficult for us to imagine that diseases such as cholera still exist, but sadly they do," said Steve Sumrall, FTN president. "Medical supplies are on their way, but medicine cannot work when the people have no nourishment. With the combination of both proper food and medicine, we pray the nation of Zimbabwe will experience a healing."

All 10 provinces in Zimbabwe are reporting cholera cases with an estimated 67,945 Zimbabweans affected by the outbreak. The nation's government estimates that 3,375 have already died. With no existing medical infrastructure, the nation struggles to assist those hurting, making foreign aid necessary. Celebration Center and Life Ministry in Harare, Zimbabwe, will receive and distribute the supplies on behalf of FTN.
