Local Organizations Team Up to Provide Food Before Disaster Strikes
SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The South Bend-based non-profit Feeding The Nations® (FTN) teamed with Granger Missionary Church, Mishawaka, Ind., to provide the Southwest Native American District Church of the Nazarene, Ariz., with over $56,128 worth of food and other necessities. The supplies were intended to help numerous churches and Sun Valley Christian school. After a fire ravaged the region, a portion of the provisions went to help those affected.
"We are very grateful for Granger Missionary's desire to reach these people and we were blessed to be able to work with them," said Steve Sumrall, president of FTN. "Little did we know that their actions would put supplies in place that would be used to help the region cope with the aftermath of a massive fire."
A 10-member team from Granger Missionary traveled to the Navajo reservation to conduct a Bible school and work on the pastor's parsonage. The provisions supplied by FTN were distributed to 33 churches, while the remainder was to be reserved for later use. But just days after the team left, a large fire destroyed thousands of acres of the reservation and displaced many of its inhabitants, giving a new need to those supplies.
"We're very grateful that Feeding The Nations was able to donate one semi-truck load of food to bless the people who were in great need," said team member Dallas Leichty.
