SOUTH BEND, Ind. -Feeding The Nations (FTN) provides for those affected by Hurricane Ike with tens of thousands of pounds of food and supplies. When the hurricane made landfall Friday, Sept. 12, the eye of the storm passed a mere 10 to 15 miles from the warehouse where FTN stores much of its food and supplies in Angleton, TX. FTN has opened its doors to distribute all available food product and supplies housed in the warehouse to the hurricane relief efforts.
"We are thankful that we can help reach those affected by Hurricane Ike in such an immediate and direct manner," said Steve Sumrall, president of FTN. "With the storm passing so closely to the warehouse, we worried about the structure's strength, but thankfully the building and all it housed were kept safe through the strong winds and rain, making it possible to touch the lives of many with food and hope."
Though the warehouse was built to withstand 150 mph winds, Hurricane Ike tested its true strength. Staff safely rode out the storm inside the building. Agencies have already begun requesting food. FTN has additional food en route to Texas to provide even more assistance. We have approved the Texas Red Cross to ship in six semi-truck loads of water and use the facility as a staging area.
For those who would like to help offset the expense of distributing those supplies, visit www.FeedingTheNations.org for more information.
