Feeding The Nations Sends Millions of Meals, Water and Shelter to Haiti
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – A local non-profit, Feeding The Nations (FTN), has mobilized 2.5 million meals, five water purifications systems and 50 family tents to send to the earthquake-stricken Haiti. Many supplies have arrived and over 400,000 pounds are scheduled to be on their way within days.
"We have been working hard to get necessary resources to Haiti as quickly as possible," said Steve Sumrall, FTN president. "We pray these efforts will bless the people of Haiti, but we refuse to stop there. We also pray that with the generosity of so many others, we will be able to bless the Haitians with even more assistance."
FTN has delivered five Vortex Voyager™ purification systems in Port au Prince and hopes to provide several more. Per day, each system can purify 600 gallons of water taken from any available water source. The result is surgical pure water—an absolute necessity since many medical centers have been destroyed by the quake. The systems can run off any power source, including a car battery and can be easily transported. The five water purification systems were flown on a private aircraft into Haiti and our emergency response team members were trained and the units are providing clean drinking water today.
FTN has purchased 50 family tents, that will sleep a six to eight people and the size is 15-ft. by 14-ft. They have a floor, a large screened window on each side and a door awning to keep out the rain. They have been shipped and will be added to the 30 already in use by our team.
Feeding The Nations is loading 12 forty foot containers about 200 tons. More food and supplies are being donated by food companies but we must move them into Haiti. Those who want to join in the effort and help FTN reach Haiti with vital food, clean water and tents, please visit www.FeedingTheNations.org or call 574-968-1566 for more information.
