Local Organization Reaches 13 Million Meals Milestone

SOUTH BEND, Ind. –Feeding The Nations (FTN) has now supplied the lost and hurting with over 13 million meals in 17 nations thanks to its partnerships with Feed My Starving Children and Kids Against Hunger. That total number of meals would feed the entire population of South Bend 123 times for four months, one meal per day.

"We are thrilled with the work we have been able to do over the years thanks to our partnerships with various organizations and the generosity of so many individuals," said Steve Sumrall, FTN president. "Though we have provided over 13 million meals in 17 nations, we have touched even more lives with other food supplies, vitamins, planting seed, medicines, water purification systems and more. We are humbled by this opportunity to play such a role in touching so many lives around the world."

Thanks to the partnerships, the following nations have received the specified amounts of meals: Sudan - 1,839,000; Zambia - 1,604,000; Zimbabwe - 1,490,000; Honduras - 1,083,000; Malawi - 1,083,000; Ethiopia - 1,012,000; Haiti - 813,000; Kenya - 798,000; Dominican Republic - 542,000; Nicaragua - 542,000; Rwanda- 542,000; Tanzania-542,000; Togo-272,000; Uganda-271,000; Ukraine-271,000; Burkina Faso and Niger- 542,000.

FTN works alongside many organizations in the United States to provide food worldwide. Their partnerships with Feed My Starving Children and Kids Against Hunger have made it possible to help fight malnutrition by procuring all the necessary supplies to produce and package the specially formulated dehydrated rice/vegetable meals enhanced with vitamins and minerals. These meals are prepared and packaged in Minn. and Ill. where once the volunteers assemble 271,000 meals into 1,254 cases, they contact FTN for distribution.

FTN is then responsible for choosing an appropriate receiving organization, completing all shipping procedures, covering all shipping costs, setting up pre-clearing documentation, and ensuring all international government regulations are complied with, as each country has their own inbound customs regulations. FTN must follow through and ensure the integrity of each and every shipment to guarantee the safety and security of the food until it arrives in villages and towns around the world where it can help those in need.
